Reading Group on Representation, Function & Cognition
Modality: Tuesdays from 12:30–14:00 hrs every two weeks, in person (714, Logic Seminar).

During the first semester, the reading group will focus on internal/mental representations, while in the second semester it will turn to the notion of function.
First sessions:
29 September: Millikan on functions. We will discuss Chapter 1, “Direct Proper Functions”, and Chapter 2, “Adapted Devices and Adapted and Derived Proper Functions”, from Ruth Garrett Millikan’s Language, Thought, and Other Biological Categories.
13 October: Millikan on representations. We will turn to Millikan’s discussion of representations, focusing on Chapter 6, “Intentional Icons: Fregean Sense, Reference, and Real Value Introduced.
